£3 million funding milestone reached

Amgueddfa Cymru –Museum Wales thanks players of People’s Postcode Lottery for their continued support

Over the last 10 years, Amgueddfa Cymru –Museum Wales, which is a registered charity, has received over £3 million of funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

Amgueddfa Cymru’s seven national museums have been supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery since 2013, enabling the museum to create programmes that make a difference to the people of Wales and beyond, and reaching over 7 million people to date.

Funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery have made a huge impact across Amgueddfa Cymru, supporting a diverse programme of public exhibitions and events, and a digital learning programme, which offers virtual visit experiences and workshops to children from across Wales.

From events targeted at toddlers, to digital dinosaur sleepovers and exciting exhibitions such as Keeping it Local at National Waterfront Museum in Swansea, Dino Babies at National Museum Cardiff and Wriggle, one of our most popular exhibitions that toured across Wales, players’ funding has helped inspire and excite a wide range of visitors to the museums.

Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, Amgueddfa Cymru has also been able to support over 6,000 volunteers across the seven national museums engaging in a range of activities from art tour, archaeology field work and helping to maintain the museums’ gardens. The players of People's Postcode Lottery have also enabled our apprenticeship programmes, including two apprentice stonemasons at St Fagans National Museum of History. These apprenticeships ensure specialist skills are preserved, whilst also providing invaluable skills and professional experience

Nia Elias, Director of Business Development, Amgueddfa Cymru, said: “A huge thank you to players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Throughout the years, the support has been a key part of our vision to inspire people and change lives. This funding enables us to support people in Wales have better and culturally richer lives, ensuring our family of seven national museums and collections belong to everyone and is here for everyone to use. This is particularly important when the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact lives and we have to play our part in dealing with the many future challenges Wales will face.”

Laura Chow, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “The people of Wales are rightly proud of their history and culture, and we are delighted Amgueddfa Cymru have reached this important funding milestone. The Postcode Lottery team are regular visitors to Wales – usually to deliver cheques to our lucky winners – and we look forward to celebrating this achievement soon.”

Amgueddfa Cymru belongs to everyone and is here for everyone to use. We are a charity and a family of seven national museums and a collections centre, located across the country. Our aim is to inspire everyone through Wales’ story, at our museums, in communities and digitally.

Our welcome is free thanks to funding from the Welsh Government and extends to people from all communities.
