Railways posters showcase at the National Waterfront Museum

The National Waterfront Museum is delighted to unveil a brand new summer exhibition showcasing some of the most attractive and popular railways posters from the late 19th century.

Titled Wales By Rail: Welsh Railway Holiday Posters, the colourful posters are displayed on a backdrop of mock-up, wooden train platforms compete with benches and luggage – to create a feeling of waiting for a train.

Two newly discovered silver casters complete the 18th century Bodelwyddan centrepiece

For the last six years, the Williams Silver Centrepiece – better known as the Bodelwyddan Centrepiece – has been on display at Bodelwyddan Castle. Although a popular treasure at the north-east Wales based museum and historic house, Britain’s earliest surviving silver table centrepiece was missing two silver casters.

The Welsh dinosaur comes back to life

An exciting new exhibit will be displayed in the Natural History galleries at National Museum Cardiff from Tuesday 5 July. A life-size reconstruction of the Welsh dinosaur Dracoraptor hangani can be seen perched on a rock alongside the museum’s other dinosaurs in the Evolution of Wales gallery.

Mametz Wood on stage at National Museum Cardiff

2016 marks the centenary of the Battle of Mametz Wood, one of the most significant and bloody battles fought by Welsh soldiers during the First World War and this July the battle will be brought to life on stage in Cardiff. Interact (Wales) in partnership with Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales will stage their production ‘Mametz Wood’ in the Reardon Smith Lecture Theatre at National Museum Cardiff on Saturday 9 July (1pm, 3pm, 6pm) and  Sunday 10 July (1pm, 3pm). Entry is free. Suitable 8 years old and over.

Dispute over museum weekend working allowances resolved

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales and the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) have reached an agreement on the future of Premium Payments – additional allowances paid to eligible museum staff who work weekends and bank holidays.
