Working with others
We're proud of our commitment to making the national collections as widely available as possible.
We have developed two partnership schemes specifically for local museums and galleries in Wales:
Sharing Treasuresand
ArtShare Wales.
We also work very closely in other ways with key regional partners throughout Wales including Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority’s Oriel y Parc, Wrexham County Borough Museum and The Cardiff Story.
Other exciting current projects include:
The Cardiff Story Museum is the capital's first museum to tell the city's history. It opened its doors to the public in April 2011.
Four years in the planning, the Cardiff Story team worked very closely with Amgueddfa Cymru throughout the development.
Victoria Rogers, from The Cardiff Story, says:
Giving advice on everything from the specification of museum cases and the best alarms and environmental monitors to buy, to the procedures we could put in place for our front of house staff, Amgueddfa Cymru have acted as our supportive adviser.
It has been especially pleasing to work with them to borrow objects from the national collection for display in our museum. Cardiff has an amazing story to tell, and up until now it has not had a place to tell it.
In the creation of our new galleries we did a great deal of consultation with the public who told us that they wanted an object-rich museum - no small task when you are starting a museum off from scratch.
The support and commitment Amgueddfa Cymru have shown has enabled us to borrow objects that have not been seen in Cardiff for decades (or longer). They are now out of Amgueddfa Cymru's stores and on show in our galleries, which can only be good for us, our visitors and Amgueddfa Cymru.
Wider Partnership Work
Relationships continue to be built with venues and institutions within and beyond Wales, which build on both the long-standing policy of lending to other institutions and on the experience of partnership work. For example, exchange and partnership projects with other national museums outside Wales has led to the sharing of curatorial strategies as well as objects being more widely accessible.
