Event:Visit The Vulcan Hotel
Come and visit The Vulcan Hotel – the newest addition to the historic buildings at St Fagans.
The Vulcan is open 12pm - 4pm Monday - Friday from 7 October. The pub is open 10am - 5pm during weekends.
The Vulcan Hotel was first registered as an ‘ale house’ in 1853. It served the mainly Irish community of what was then called Newtown. During its long history it saw major changes as Cardiff grew to become an industrial powerhouse and then the nation’s capital, finally closing its doors for the last time in 2012.
The Vulcan is displayed as it was in 1915, an important year for the pub. At this time, it had just undergone a major refurbishment that saw the distinctive green and brown tiles added to the frontage, as well as a redesign of its interior.
You can choose to enjoy a drink in The Vulcan, or simply visit and experience the atmosphere of a 1915 pub.
Visitor Information
• We’re expecting the pub to be very busy for the first few weeks and you may need to queue to visit The Vulcan.
• Dogs and prams cannot be taken into the pub.
• You can visit the building without buying a drink.
• You do not need to book in advance.

Opening Hours
Our opening hours are changing for the winter season.
From 4 November until 28 February 2025, we will be open 10am-4pm every day.
Opening hours will be different for our Christmas events – see the event pages on our website for details.
Parking
If you are driving to St Fagans, you will have to pay for parking. The cost is £7 per day and can be paid by cash or card. FREE for disabled badge holders and motorbikes. £30 yearly ticket in advance. This charge is for parking only – entry to the Museum remains free.

Eat, drink, shop
- Our cafes and restaurant will be open during your visit.
- The Museum shop will be open during your visit.
- You are welcome to bring a picnic to the Museum.
