Event:Gwau Gwryd: Knitting Competition

National Wool Museum

Join us as we celebrate 50 years of the National Wool Museum with a special Gwau Gwryd gathering.

Step into the lively tradition o Gwau Gwryd- a social knitting gathering rooted in a West Wales tradition, where people came together to knit, chat, share stories and enjoy a bit of friendly competition.

Today it's a chance to slow down, connect, and be part of the same spirit- where knitting meets community, conversation and friendly rivalry.

Why not take part in this tradition? If you'd like to take part, please book your free ticket. Spectators are very welcome- come along and enjoy (no need to book).

1pm-2pm: Enjoy storytelling and entertainment from storyteller, actor, comic, and writer Ceri John Phillips as you cast on 20 stitches.

2pm-2.50pm: The competition begins! In this 50-minute challenge (1 minute per year of the Museum) participants will each be given the same length of Welsh wool and race to finish first.

The first participant to finish wins a prize. The first three finishing times will be recorded, and all participants will stop knitting when the 50-minute time limit is reached.
During the competition, harpist Delyth Jenkins will provide live musical accompaniment.

4pm: Optional demonstrations of the historic machinery will take place.
