Basin, earthenware, standing on a high cylindrical foot-rim, round curving sides, flaring everted rim, the rim lobed; transfer-printed in blue with to the interior bottom of the basin the 'Whampoa' pattern, a chinoiserie-style scene showing a number of elaborate pagodas linked by bridges and fences with a spreading willow-like tree hanging over them, in the foreground a Chinese junk on an expanse of water, in the background further pagodas on islands in an expanse of water, wide border to the exterior sides and interior rim of flower heads, foliage and scrolls on a scale blue ground.
