Roman Bootcamp

Come along and join our very own Second Augustan Legion
Meet our Centurion, take a look at some armour, weapons and military equipment from the Roman army and find out what life was like for a Roman soldier on the edge of the empire.
Have you got what it takes to be a Roman legionary?
There’ll also be an opportunity to try on Roman armour and learn to march with the Centurion using Latin commands.
This activity lasts an hour. Book on arrival.

Find out about family life in the fortress this summer and handle some real Roman objects.

Gladiators

2000 years ago Gladiators were some of the biggest sports stars in the Roman Empire. They were both loved and hated and watched by people from all parts of Roman society, including the soldiers in Caerleon.
Why not pop into our ludus, a gladiator training school? Our gladiators will train you to fight and tell you about the equipment and lives of these impressive warriors.

Opening Hours
From Monday 4 November until 28 February 2025, we will be open 10am – 4pm every day.
Christmas and New Year: Closed from 1pm on 23 December. Closed 24-26 and 1 January.

The Museum will be CLOSED for staff training.
Parking
Parking is either on Broadway (next to the amphitheatre), Museum Street (limited parking) or off High Street, adjacent to the Baths. Cycle stands are available at the amphitheatre.

Eat, drink, shop
- The Gallery has no facility for refreshments but there are number of catering outlets in Caerleon town centre.
- The Museum shop will be open during your visit.
- You are welcome to bring a picnic, while there’s nowhere to eat these within the museum, there are areas outside which make for a nice spot.
