Event:A Frontier in Depth
'A Frontier in Depth' investigates how shifting boundaries influence our understanding of identity and place.
Working in collaboration with Artes Mundi, Hannan Jones has created a trilogy of short films on display until 27 April 2025.
The first begins in the Museum’s subterranean archive using pictures of displayed artefacts that embody multiple narratives, raising questions of how these items shape collective memory and fragmented histories.
Expanding outward, the second film is driven by soundscapes around us, while the third focuses on the celestial – a tool for navigation and governance throughout time.
Collaborating with members of the local communities in Caerleon and Newport, a series of ceramic vessels have been created, on display until 1 August 2025, embodying reflections on the present and future to encourage visitors to critically engage with the past and its ongoing impact today.
Perspectives
Supported by the Welsh Government through the Anti-racist Wales Action Plan, Perspective(s) is a pioneering initiative that brings together seven culturally diverse artists to explore the deep and often unspoken connections between Wales and global histories of empire, migration, and resistance.
The Perspective(s) exhibition is hosted across all seven Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales sites, with each artist shedding light on hidden histories embedded within the national collection
