Event:Celebration of Nature

St Fagans National Museum of History

Join us as we celebrate the wealth of Nature in Wales at St Fagans National Museum of History.
We’ll have our Amgueddfa Cymru scientists on hand to give you a glimpse into the fascinating diversity of life using specimens from our collections that are stored in Cardiff.
Learn from our experts in plants, animals and fossils.
We’ve partnered with some local nature-based charities and organisations, who will talk about their wonderful projects to help protect our biodiversity.

What Can I Do?

  • Join our curators, who look after our natural science collections, and take a close look at molluscs, marine invertebrates, fossils, insects, vertebrates and plants.
  • Play our huge snakes and ladders game with questions on plants, animals and fossils.
  • Investigate how seeds travel the world and make your own flying seed with our botany curators.
  • Grab some of our Spotter’s Sheets to learn about garden pond snails, ocean hitchhikers, seaweeds and fossils.
  • Investigate the lives of amphibians and reptiles that call Wales home.
  • Chat to our entomology curators about insect mimicry and camouflage and make your own stick insect to take home.
  • Follow our bird trail through the St Fagans grounds.
  • Talk to the Hedgehog Helpline to find out what to do if you see a hedgehog in your garden.
  • Find out about Butterfly and Bee Conservation.
  • Talk to the plant experts from the National Botanic Garden of Wales.
  • SEWBReC – Southeast Wales Biodiversity Records Centre – will be in our grounds to talk about recording our wildlife.
  • Learn about global forest restoration with Size of Wales to ensure a Future with Forests.
  • And Wild Cymru will be there to discuss a range of projects that they are leading on to help restore nature. Find out what you can do to help…

Activities may have to change at the last minute so please phone the museum before making a special journey.
