This exhibition by Teilwr Bach in collaboration with Oasis Cardiff is made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The exhibition showcases traditional tailoring and screen printing, promotes slow fashion and explores the history and heritage of Welsh wool.
On display are a number of bespoke woollen coats, jackets and shirts made from Welsh woven fabrics and vintage Welsh carthen blankets. The garments have been designed and tailored by Catherine Davies (Teilwr Bach), except for one coat which has been created by Clare Johns.
Each garment features a unique screen-printed lining pattern relating to the fabric or carthen blanket. The print patterns, designed by local artists, have been inspired by the relevant woollen mills and factories, the weaving process, the natural environment and the local history. The lining fabrics have all been printed at The Printhaus Cardiff.
Refugees and asylum seekers from Oasis Cardiff have developed sewing skills, transforming the project’s fabric offcuts into slippers, bags and draught excluders. These items will be on sale in the Museum shop during the exhibition, with all profits going back to Oasis.
We’re always working on new and exciting exhibitions and events – why not be among the first to hear about them?
