Event:Calico Dress Cymru - Family Workshops
Join us in this special workshop to embroider your own motif onto the CALICO DRESS CYMRU
These family sessions are for older children aged 10+ accompanied by a participating adult.
For 10 weeks between April – June, Calico Dress Cymru will take over a large ground floor plinth of the Museum, a fantastic space for to embroider your own motif design onto the dress
Sessions will be guided by Textiles Artist Menna Buss (@menna_buss) in stitch technique, so no previous experience is required.
In the sessions, you will design and then stitch a motif thinking of the themes of Wales – Past, Present, Future adding your voice to this special collective canvas.
By the end of its time at the Museum, we aim to end with a beautifully embellished dress.

- Age 10+ accompanied by a participating adult.
- No experience required!
- All materials provided, but you are welcome to bring your own preferred threads if you would like.
Background,
In 2022, artist Kirstie Macloed’s well acclaimed, international project THE RED DRESS (@reddress_embroidery) was exhibited at the Museum, a project that is now 15 years in to gathering voices in stitch from women around the world.
Since then, the CALICO DRESS CYMRU (@calicodress_cymru) was commissioned by the Museum. This is the first ‘daughter’ dress, and there are now many others being commissioned around the world.
Community Group bookings - If you are part of a community group who might be interested in sharing their voices on the dress in a separate workshop session, do get in touch, contact miranda.berry-bowen@museumwales.ac.uk
