Event:Is AI just a really smart horse

National Waterfront Museum

Join computer scientist Dr Megan Venn-Wycherley for a gallop through the funniest failures and sneakiest shortcuts of artificial intelligence - featuring a maths-defying horse, a chihuahua that might be a muffin, and the chance to become a human chatbot. You'll leave knowing exactly what your phone has in common with a Victorian Horse. Fun for all ages.

In 1904, a horse called Clever Hans amazed the world by doing maths with his hoof - until a scientist discovered his real trick, and it was even stranger than maths!
More than a century later, we're surrounded by machines that seem to think: they chat, they draw, they finish our sentences. But how much of it is genuine intelligence, and how much is a very fancy hoof-tap?
