Event:Johnny Lewis and Friends: Stories from Cambrian Mills

National Wool Museum

Join us for a special day of stories, history and discovery inspired by Johnny Lewis, former owner of Cambrian Mills (1920s-1950s).

Enjoy character-led tours in Welsh and English as Johnny Lewis shares stories of life at the mill and the local woollen industry. Visitors will also have the opportunity to see a vintage Triumph Mayflower, the type of car Johnny drove, and discover more about the people, places and traditions connected to the Museum’s history.

Meet Nansi, a character inspired by the people and families of the local woollen community, and discover another side of life through stories and activities for all ages.

Event timetable:

10.30am – Johnny Lewis character tour in Welsh

11.45am – Meet Nansi and hear stories inspired by the lives of local mill workers and their families

1pm – Johnny Lewis character tour in English

2pmIn Conversation: Raymond Jones and Johnny Lewis. Raymond Jones, who worked at Cambrian Mills and later owned Melin Teifi, on the site of the Museum, joins Johnny Lewis to share memories and discuss life and work at the mill and the Welsh woollen industry.

2.30pm – Meet Nansi

Throughout the event, visitors can see a vintage Triumph Mayflower, the type of car driven by Johnny Lewis, on display at the Museum. Family craft activities will also be available during the day.

 Eat, drink, shop

Our café serves a selection of hot and cold drinks, cakes and snacks. Please note that the museum café closes at 4pm. The Museum shop will be open during your visit. You are welcome to bring a picnic , while there’s nowhere to eat these within the museum, there are benches outside which make for a nice spot.

Please note that the car park gates will be locked at 5pm. So if your vehicle is still in the car park after 5pm, we hope you brought a sleeping bag!
