Course:Half Day Course: Introduction to Blacksmithing – Love Spoon

Big Pit National Coal Museum

A special opportunity to try the ancient art of blacksmithing in Big Pit’s original Forge, where generations of blacksmiths served the needs of Big Pit. Working under the guidance of Len, the Museum Blacksmith, who has over 50 years’ experience of working as a Blacksmith and working underground you will have the opportunity to craft a Metal Love Spoon, inspired by the traditional Welsh tokens of affection.

There is one ticket available to purchase per session, as only one Love Spoon can be made per session. Purchasing the ticket enables you to attend either as a couple to share the experience, or to attend alone, perhaps to create the Love Spoon as a special surprise gift for a loved one.

The ‘bowl’ of the Love Spoon will be crafted in advance by Len, during your session you will work together to produce the heart and twist the Love Spoon into its final shape.  The session will last up to 2 hours.
