In 2022, a small clock that stopped at 9.13am, the moment the Aberfan disaster struck on 21 October 1966, was entrusted to Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales. The clock represents a profound point of connection between lived experience and national memory.

Since 2022 Amgueddfa Cymru have begun a wider programme of collecting with community members in Aberfan and surrounding areas. This includes collecting personal items, memories and oral histories that speak to the long-term impact of the disaster and the ways it continues to shape personal, community and national identities. This work reflects Amgueddfa Cymru’s approach to collecting - placing community knowledge and lived experience at its core.
