Wales — The First Industrial Nation

The National Waterfront Museum Swansea opened in October 2005. This was a major component of Amgueddfa Cymru's industrial strategy for collecting, displaying and ensuring access to the industrial collections.

The development of the strategy and new museum was carried out in consultation with interested bodies and individuals throughout Wales, and new partnerships were developed, such as working jointly with the local authority - Swansea City Council, to ensure together we could safeguard and share Wales' industrial heritage.

The original consultation document enabled us to create the National Waterfront Museum, and it continues to develop innovative ways of engaging members of the public, the local community, community groups and key stakeholders in its plans. An example of this continuous development is the project Everywhere in Chains
