Library
The Industry and Transport's Library is located at the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea and consists of over 20,000 books and periodicals which support the Museum's staff in their research, curatorial and conservation duties in caring for the Museum collection and also in interpreting Welsh industrial, transport and maritime history.
As well as a representative collection of industrial histories, the Library also holds technical and instructional works for these industries. The Library includes a complete set of Lloyds Registers from 1836 to present day (we have selected volumes from 1764 to 1832), and a series of volumes on the shipwrecks that have occurred around the coast of the British Isles. We also have a complete run of HMSO Annual List of Mines from the 1850s to the present day. The Library holds a comprehensive run of significant extant periodicals including H.M. Inspectors of Mines Reports, as well as holding nearly 8,000 coal mining related bound volumes and pamphlets. We presently subscribe to over forty current periodicals.
Opening hours and conditions of use
The Library is open to the public, by appointment only, from Monday to Friday from 10.30am - 1.00pm and 2.00pm to 4.30pm. It is closed on weekends and on national holidays. As a reference Library the books may not be borrowed although books may be loaned to other libraries via an inter-library loan service.
If you would like to use the Library you will need to make an appointment; this should be made with the Curator responsible for the section of the Library that you wish to see.
